Hostgator is a web hosting company that has been around since about 2002. Today they have become one of the most popular web hosting companies online, and even one of the fastest growing companies in the U.S.A.

My review of HostGator Web Hosting:

I first started using Hostgator a few years ago when I was looking for an inexpensive and reliable web hosting reseller plan. What I found was a great web host that offers a few different plans to suit the needs of a wide range of customers. From the time I signed up for Hostgator web hosting, I have always been fond of their Houston-based “Southern hospitality” customer service. Being my first time signing up for a reseller web hosting plan, I wasn’t all that familiar with the process. Hostgator‘s support staff was very helpful in guiding me along through unfamiliar territory, and without being put on hold or having to wait long periods of time.
Since then I have referred many friends to their shared web hosting packages, all of whom have been quite satisfied with their services as well.

Great Web Hosting Packages

Hostgator offers three basic shared web hosting packages; the “Hatchling” plan, the “Baby” plan and the “Business” Plan.
The “Hatchling” web hosting plan is Hostgator‘s entry-level web hosting package. Starting at $4.95 per month, this web hosting package gets you pretty much unlimited web hosting resources; web storage, bandwidth, email, MySQL and more. Unfortunately with this web hosting plan, you only get one single domain per account. This means that if you wanted to setup additional domains on this account, you would most certainly have to upgrade to the “Baby” plan (or set up a second web hosting plan).
Hostgator‘s “Baby” web hosting plan is a slight step up from their “Hatchling” plan. Staring at $7.95 per month, this web hosting package gets you all the same great unlimited web hosting resources that you get in the “Hatchling” plan, but with the “Baby” plan you can addon as many domains as you wish, allowing you to host as many websites as your heart desires!. For $3 extra per month, I would say the “Baby” web hosting plan is an essential upgrade from their “Hatchling” package.
Last but not least in Hostgator‘s lineup of shared web hosting packages is the “Business” plan. The “Business” web hosting plan, as the name might insinuate, is a web hosting package designed for small to medium sized businesses. Much like Hostgator‘s other two shared web hosting plans, the “Business” plan gets you unlimited everything, but with the “Business” plan, you also get a free toll-free telephone number, a dedicated IP address and private SSL. Other notable upgrades include Chilisoft ASP support and anonymous FTP access.

Familiar Control Panel

Hostgator‘s Linux-based web servers run cPanel, which is the most popular, and arguably the simplest and easiest web hosting control panel. The familiar interface allows you to easily manage all aspects of your web hosting account without having to learn any complicated web server technologies.

Great Customer Support

One of the best things I found about Hostgator is their willingness go out of their way to help you out. They have quite a number of knowledgeable employees who have always been pretty keen to help me out. On top of their24/hr support and satisfaction guarantee, they claim that if you are not satisfied with their regular customer support, you can request that your support ticket be forwarded to the CEO and he will handle your request personally and make sure you get what you want.

HostGator’s Gone Green!

In an effort to reduce cost and environmental impact, Hostgator powers their datacenter with wind turbines. In fact, Hostgator actually puts more energy back on the grid than they use.

Conclusion

Hostgator has great customer service and a good selection of web hosting packages. For under $10 per month their knowledgeable friendly staff will have you back every step of the way getting you set up with a great web hosting plan.
